History

Hammar Maskin AB, in Sweden, started manufacturing the HAMMAR™ over 35 years ago. Ben Hammar, the founder of the company and the inventor of the HAMMAR™, is still the Operating Managing Director of the Hammar Group. The company is 100% owned by the Hammar family.

Hammar is concentrated on developing, manufacturing and marketing sideloaders only. This focusing on one type of vehicle has made Hammar to be the world’s largest supplier of sideloaders with sales in more than 90 countries worldwide.

Hammar New Zealand Ltd is proud to be focusing 100% on the New Zealand domestic market. The HAMMAR™ is manufactured and assembled in New Zealand after Swedish design, using Swedish quality high tensile steel.

History

1992-1995 - Hammar Maskin AB is represented in New Zealand through agent Maxwell Rotors Ltd.
1995-1997 - Hammar Maskin AB represented in New Zealand through agent Fruehauf Trailers Ltd.
1997 - Hammar decides to establish its own subsidiary to get closer to the New Zealand transport industry and Hammar New Zealand Limited is incorporated.
1998 - Johan Eliasson, one of the staff members in Sweden is appointed MD for Hammar NZ and moves out to NZ to set up the new company and Hammar New Zealand is established.
2000 - Hammar NZ moves in to larger locations at 345 Great South Road, Takanini
2002 - Johan Eliassons contract with Hammar Group ends and Fred Sandberg is appointed new MD.
2002 - The 20th new HAMMAR™ is delivered to Lawson Transport in Auckland.
2002 - Hammar NZ doubles its production area.
2003 – Hammar NZ delivers the first 45’ sideloader in New Zealand complying with NZTA road regulations.
2005 - Hammar NZ participates in the Transport and Heavy Equipment Expo in Hamilton “THE EXPO”
2006 - Charlie Herewini, one of the staff from the workshop, is appointed Key Account Manager.
2008 - Hammar NZ moves to larger premises at 3 Glasgow Avenue in Manukau, a step to also getting closer to the Auckland customers and to be able to provide better and quicker service.
2009 - 5-7 March, Hammar NZ participates in the Transport and Heavy Equipment Expo in Hamilton “THE EXPO” again and now even bigger.
2010 – Hammar NZ obtains redress and wins a patent infringement case against another NZ sideloader manufacturer.
